MURAL STREET ART

ENOUGH AND NOTHING

BEACUSE…RED-IMG_9999.jpg

BECAUSE I Am Still Seeing RED is my series of mural and assemblage artwork. All of us feel the weight of everything going on in the world. This series represents the transformation from my work feeding off intimate interaction and visual stimulus from beyond my immediate world into a state of introspection and unease derived from losing the ability to observe and interact with the world. Most of all, the work is my way to show lessons learned and express deep gratitude to all of the creatives that came along when I felt anguished, scared, lonely, tired or just had a bad day. They kept me connected; gave me and a sense of belonging and ~ always hope.

Their inspired and artistic remedies that repaired me. Deeply value and treasure new and already beautiful and meaningful connections I have managed to build with people I care for and ~ to always hope.

I started the street mural ENOUGH AND NOTHING on March 14 but stopped work when Chicago lockdown was announced. I felt strongly about the work and needed to make it so I installed large boards in my garden.

THE GAMBLER

TheGambler_IMG_1548_edited.jpg

The Gambler is a study created at Logan Project. Working large murals at the Logan Wall allow me to send messages to the People and magic to the Universe. My murals are studies because as I work through them I work out Studio series.

16 CROSSES

16 Crossings ~ by Crosses, Chicago

Acrylic brushwork and stenciling on Logan Square brick wall

Out of the Gray curated by Flash and attended by Graffiti Artists including BBoyB, Chumley, Trixster, Lardo Flash from Artistic Bombing Crew, a Chicago Graffiti legend, runs a permission wall that Graffiti Artists come and do productions on. The Walls are located in Logan Square right at Fullerton & Milwaukee. While riding the CTA Blue line, you are able to see the walls in between the Logan Square stop & California stop. So come by and check out the beautiful murals done by artists from all over the world!

I met some artists selected to paint murals so I stopped by early on production day. As I made my way talking to artists and exploring their work I offered assistance and requested that they discreetly paint me a Lucky M, I was introduced to Flash. The artists explained to him that I should be painting. Well, Flash quickly evaluated me, decided that it was first come first serve as he pointed and said “That’s your wall”.

I had no plan but that was not going to stop me. I did not have supplies but that was not going to stop me. I hadn’t painted much recently and never walls but that was not going to stop me. I jumped in my car and on the way home sketched out the start of a production. I knew it would be Lucky M and as I painted the moonlight struck the wall and I imagined in white 16 +. I did not bring white paint but Lardo painting above me had some and generously gave me his can of white.

16 Crossings was completed in 3 typical Chicago days when the weather went from dreary cold with rain to sunny hot. I painted from dawn to dusk all the while balancing ladders on uneven ground. I was gifted numerous history and technical lessons all the while being cheered on by the artists and onlookers and seeing people react was a priceless experience.

As I painted the mural revealed itself to me. It is the 16 shots my memorial to all gun violence.

See the book.

HOLY WATER

Street art murals evolved into assemblage artifact pieces which then led me to incorporate pasting and charged objects into cuttings of actual walls. This is the first cutting of an actual wall made for Art At the Fence in celebration of Graffiti artist Flash’s 2019 birthday. The Crew zip tied the wall to the fence at Medill. It honors Flash and 16 Crosses, my first mural.

Holy Water also marks my first use of site specific material because the barb wire is from the fence. The Holy Water is from Rome. Holy Water is the first of a series of pastings that will be installed in the Chicago area.

MOM

HOPE DIES LAST

RESPECT

MOM, HOPE Dies Last and Respect are Logan Square street art murals and rituals, painted as part of a female artist Mother’s Day graffiti event curated by Orked.

In addition to painting an homage to my Mother the artists requested me to paint one of my charged symbolic rosaries connecting all of the individual murals.
